The JORI ZEMEL CHILDREN'S BONE CANCER FOUNDATION has
long maintained a goal of providing emotional and financial
support to the families affected by cancer. We have
personally seen the devastation that cancer brings to the
hearts and minds of these families, as well as the financial
burden of treatment. With this burden in mind, we are
establishing the STARR FAMILY PROGRAM.
Implemented in the fall of 2006, the
STARR FAMILY PROGRAM is a new initiative aimed to aid families
affected by cancer. This program will subsidize some
of the overwhelming costs that face families undergoing
treatment at the Children's Cancer Hospital at M.D. Anderson
Cancer Center, such as rising gas prices and parking.
In additional to financial assistance, the STARR FAMILY
PROGRAM will host semi-annual events at the Children's
Cancer Hospital to provide entertainment and create a sense
of support, acceptance and genuine concern for the children
currently undergoing treatment and their families.
The first Festival and Cancer Walk held in memory of Jori
Starr Zemel enabled us to donate $46,000 to the Children's
Cancer Hospital at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Since
then, the Festival and Cancer Walk has become an annual
event and our small nonprofit group has donated over
$230,000 towards children's bone cancer research at MDA.
Similarly, it is necessary for this effort to start small
with hopes that we can create a bigger and better program
every year. With you on our side, we have no doubt
that this goal will be accomplished.
